Directions

From the Car Park at Boolteenagh: Follow the orange arrows and set out along the ridge with fantastic views over Bantry Bay and Dunmanus Bay. At way marker (WM) no. 49 you will see “Lough Na Fuilla” (Lake of the Blood) straight ahead of you. Cross the stile here and turn left at WM 20 CM. Follow the track (The old lake road) south to a tar road. Continue straight on at WM 16 CM (past the junction for Fahane & Gearhies) until you reach a finger post sign for “Coomkeen”. Turn left here and walk along the road, following the finger post signs for Coomkeen at each cross back to the car park at Boolteenagh along the road, passing the turn off for “Durrus Cheese”.

To drive to the car park from Bantry: Leave Bantry taking the N71 towards Cork. Turn right after 2.2km Signs marks the Sheep’s Head Drive and Wild Atlantic Way routes. Drive for about 2.5km before making a turn onto a road to the left. About 400m on you take the road to the left. Proceed uphill, twisting and turning for about 1.5km. You have fabulous views back across Bantry Bay. This road will take you to Boolteenagh Car Park at the peak of the peninsula. Please be considerate where you park, and don’t block farm access.

News & Updates

The Sheep’s Head Way is closed to the public on Sunday 31st January 2021

As usual each year, the Sheep’s Head Way is closed on 31 January, unless the expressed wishes of the Landowner states otherwise. This has become a customary practice which enables the landowner to grant permission for the public to access their land throughout the remaining year without risk of any public right of way being established. We hope you will respect this necessary inconvenience.

Mount Corrin loop

Due to storm damage, the forestry section of the Mount Corrin loop walk will remain closed until further notice.
