Directions

You can also start this Loop walk from the Black Gate Trailhead

To start from the Tooreen Trailhead / Bernie’s Cafe: Set out towards the lighthouse following the red arrows west, past lovely Lough Akeen, down to the helicopter pad where you have the option to walk down the steps to the lighthouse (worth the views). From the helicopter pad the trail heads back on the northern side of the peninsula in an Easterly direction for 4 to 5 km out onto a quiet country road. At Reagh, follow signs for the poet’s way and Cahergal, cross a stile to travel across the peninsula to the south, before walking west again along the ridge, past the ruins of an old signal tower and a WW2 look out post, until you descend to the Car park at Tooreen.

News & Updates

The Sheep’s Head Way is closed to the public on Sunday 31st January 2021

As usual each year, the Sheep’s Head Way is closed on 31 January, unless the expressed wishes of the Landowner states otherwise. This has become a customary practice which enables the landowner to grant permission for the public to access their land throughout the remaining year without risk of any public right of way being established. We hope you will respect this necessary inconvenience.

Mount Corrin loop

Due to storm damage, the forestry section of the Mount Corrin loop walk will remain closed until further notice.
